Many fast food restaurants are running out of ideas for new promotions and are trying to garner interest in their products by trying to merge products together into some type of Frankenstein fast food creation. The popularity of viral videos showing amateur cooks attempting to make weird concoctions of various different foods has given marketing executives the ability to green light weird new foods in an attempt to get their franchises some publicity. Here are a few of these brand new food items that you may have come across at a fast food establishment near you.

Subway Pizza Sub

-Subway has always been home to the meatball sub but lately they’ve been trying to cater to the pizza audience with new flat bread pizzas. It came full circle for Subway when they decided to simply make a sub sandwich with pizza ingredients. Enjoy spicy pepperoni, piled high and layered with melt-a-licious cheese and their signature marinara sauce.

Cici’s Macaroni & Cheese Pizza

-Cici’s decided to take everyone’s favorite side dish and put it on a pizza. I guess enticing people with all-you-can-eat pizza at the buffet wasn’t enough of a promotional tool for the restaurant chain. Tender cavatappi pasta and macaroni and cheese sauce topped with shredded Italian pizza cheese on our traditional crust. This will certainly bring the kid out in anyone but we’d prefer a nice slice of pepperoni and to simply put the mac & cheese on the side.

Doritos Locos Tacos

-Doritos Locos Tacos came out in 2012 in Nacho Cheese at Taco Bell. A crunchy taco with ground beef, lettuce, and real cheddar cheese, in a shell made out of Doritos chips. In 2009, Todd Mills started the Facebook page ‘Taco Shells from Doritos Movement’ and encouraged followers to ‘tell Frito-Lay that we demand nacho cheesy taco shells!’ After initial refusal, Taco Bell executives got wind of the movement and started to test out the product and invited Todd to try out the new tacos at their test kitchen at company headquarters. Taco Bell have now sold over 500 million Doritos Locos Tacos. Sadly, Todd Mills (who never asked for any compensation from Taco Bell) died of brain cancer at the age of 40.

McDonald’s Mac Snack

-McDonald’s latest attempt at trying to bring in Tex-Mex or any type of Mexican cuisine is an attempt at merging a Big Mac with a flour tortilla. Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame bun [except the bun is now a tortilla]. The Big Mac Snack Wrap is the same size as the chicken snack wraps McDonald’s carries except they have nearly half the filling inside. One commentator on a fast food forum noted that it looked like a turd in a tortilla. These things are only 1.59$ so you’re getting much less than a regular Big Mac but at a fraction of the cost.

Krispy Kreme Burger

-The Gateway Grizzlies are a minor league baseball team just outside of St-Louis, Missouri that serve this burger at their concession stand. It’s a burger with cheese and bacon, sandwiched between a Krispy Kreme doughnut. The Grizzlies say cheesy gimmicks like this are crucial to the team’s bottom line. For a mere $4.50; it’s breakfast, dinner, and a little dessert all in one. After you’re finished eating a burger, you might want to audition for the team in order to try and lose the 1000 calories from the burger and the extra 10 grams of sugar from the donut.

McGangBang

-A Daytona Beach McDonald’s restaurant came up with the clever idea of taking multiple McDonald’s burgers and joining them together to form one super burger. Off the Dollar Menu you order one double cheeseburger and one Spicy McChicken sandwich. Spit the double cheeseburger between the two patties, and then put the entire Spicy McChicken sandwich inside the double cheeseburger. It’s a creative manipulation of existing menu items for only 2.16$. The sexual exploitation of the term is quite illicit as you don’t see beef and chicken paired together on the same bun all that often. McDonald’s employees are beginning to catch on to the term and they know how to make it, much like the off-the-menu items at In-N-Out.

Poutine

-Poutine is a French-Canadian dish traditionally made of French fries and fresh cheese curds, covered with gravy. Poutine was born in rural Quebec in the 1950s but there’s some controversy over who actually invented the meal. Some say that it was invented in a restaurant in Warwick, Quebec while others say that it was invented at the ‘Roy Jucep’ restaurant in Drummondville, Quebec. In the USA, some restaurants make a similar meal and call it ‘Disco Fries’. The meal that started off in Quebec has quickly spread across Canada. It used to be found only in fast food joints in Quebec but now McDonald’s will be selling poutine nationwide in Canada from now on.

We hope you enjoyed our article on fast food fusion food and we hope to write another article on this new trend very soon once we do some more research with our food sources.
