It’s the weekend and you’re bringing some friends over for a late night gaming session. This will mean that many hours of your life will be devoted to sitting in one place and staring at a television or computer monitor without blinking. At some point, you’re going to get very hungry and want to eat or drink something very fast without interrupting your gaming session. Sure, you can run up to the kitchen and patiently wait for food to be ready but this will cut valuable time that you should be focusing on defeating your enemies and becoming the #1 super ultra gaming master. We’ll now share with you some valuable gaming energy foods that will help to keep you alert and keep your tummy from growling during your gaming marathon.


Gummy Bears

-Gummy bears are a fat-free food. They can be packaged in a variety of different fruit flavors and have a low calorie intake. They don’t melt and will leave no residue on your hands. These foods can be easy to pop in your mouth without having to pause the game. They offer no nutritional value and no added minerals so you’ll be enjoying these only for the sugar and not to help keep your senses alive or to keep you from falling asleep.



Seeds & Nuts

-Again, another food that is easy to shove in your mouth while waiting for a game to load or for a quick jolt during a gaming session. Seeds & nuts have plenty of nutrients and oils. They contain healthy fatty acids such as omega-3. This type of fat helps maintain brain function, nourishes your red blood cells and helps fight excess inflammation. Also, these foods help to keep you healthy as you age by preventing disease. This will be of a great benefit to you if you want to be gaming well into your older years without getting sick. In addition, seeds & nuts are high in fiber. Undigested fiber adds bulk to your stool to promote regular bowel movements. This simply means that you won’t have to spend an hour in the bathroom that could be used for gaming time by having bad poops for all of the crappy food that you just ate.


Mint Chewing Gum

-Chewing gum has several benefits. It’s useful to reduce weight gain and prevent the usage of cigarettes. These are both helpful because chewing gum causes a distraction and keeps you occupied and gaming rather than stuffing your mouth full of food. In addition, studies performed by Baylor College of Medicine have shown that chewing gum may increase standardized testing scores, and may also help with alertness, as well as stress and anxiety relief. Another benefit of chewing gum is that it temporarily keeps your breath fresh. This now means that your gaming friends will be able to enjoy their gaming session without smelling your horrible breath all night long.


Sun Chips or Tortilla Chips

-Most fried chips aren’t healthy for you. They contain empty calories and high salt content. Sun Chips are a multi-grain flavor that contain whole grains. They also have 30% less total and saturated fat. whole grain chip fried in a healthy oil, such as olive or canola can help to reduce heart disease and contain fatty acids that are good for the body. Chips still contain lots of salt which can cause hypertension so try to avoid eating lots of these with something else that has too much sodium. Another drawback is the sodium will make your mouth dry which will dehydrate you and force you to consume more water or other cold or warm beverages on hand.


Energy Drinks

-It’s no secret that energy drinks are the ideal drink for a long gaming session. Most energy drinks contain double or triple the amount of caffeine that will help to keep you up all night and help to keep you alert. Energy drinks such as ‘Bawls’ contain guarana which is a South American plant that contains a caffeine-like compound called guaranine. One gram of guarana is equal to 40 mg of caffeine. Many energy drinks have ginseng which is believed to boost athletic performance, strengthen the immune system and improve your mood. There are also many drawbacks to these products. The caffeine levels can increase heart rates which can be damaging for some individuals. The large levels of high fructose corn syrup or sugars can cause diabetes and tooth decay. guarana berries haven’t been fully approved by the FDA yet so we don’t know the long term effects on the human body. Also, the drinks will give you a quick high that will eventually cause you to come crashing back down to earth and will make you very tired and much sleep will be needed. Even with the drawbacks, we can’t deny that for a long gaming session, these drinks will help you stay alert and help to kill some bad guys.


Candy Coated Chocolate

-Chocolate brands such as ‘M & Ms’ were created because of their practicality for soldiers fighting in wars. Chocolate with candy coating helped soldiers enjoy a quick snack without the chocolate melting all over their hands which were needed to hold on to a weapon. Flash forward a couple of decades and the video game controller is now the new weapon in most adolescents hands. Chocolate used to be considered bad for you but recent studies suggest some great health benefits to those that consume chocolate. Chocolate helps in lowering cholesterol levels, preventing cognitive decline, and reducing the risk of cardiovascular problems. Canadian scientists carried out a study involving 44,489 people and found that people eating chocolate were 22 per cent less likely to suffer a stroke than those who didn’t. In addition, those who had a stroke but regularly consumed chocolate were 46 percent less likely to die as a result.


Beef Jerky

-Beef jerky is a form of cured meat that was made by Native American tribes so that they could prevent meat from rotting in the winter months when it was harder to hunt and be able to store food. When you’re in a video gaming marathon, it’s going to be very hard to whip up a steak dinner or flip some burgers on the grill. It will take a long time to cook , smell up your house, be greasy and get stains all over your controllers and your neighbors will think that you’re nuts when they see you having a BBQ at 2:00 a.m. in the morning. Beef jerky contains zinc and enough protein that is recommended for a well balanced diet. It’s an even better choice if you can find an organic brand that is grain fed or doesn’t have high levels of sodium that will cause hypertension or dry mouth. If you insist on eating meat at your video game party – make it beef jerky.


Hot Pockets

-If you insist on eating pizza; we recommend hot pockets because they only need to be microwaved which saves time and are less messy compared to a traditional pizza pie. All of the combined ingredients are neatly tucked away inside the dough filling which will help to prevent spillage. Hot pockets come in many varieties and you can purchase some that are vegetarian, cheese-filled, tomato-filled, or stuffed full of meat. These foods mostly contain highly processed ingredients and high levels of fat and sugar but probably aren’t much worse than the delivery pizza that you were going to order anyways.

Now that you know what snacks to enjoy; it’s time to head on over to the nearest convenience or grocery store and pick up some yummy snacks for your next gaming session.
