College Student/Graduate Food Items Survival Guide

Posted in: Food

This is a must-have article for any student or any person that has just moved out of their house and now must control their own destiny when it comes to food and cooking stuff. We have composed a list of items that you will need so that you don’t end up starving at the end of the day.

Pots

-Every household needs pots to be able to cook stuff with. Even if you can’t fork out the cash for a bunch of them in different sizes at least buy an all-purpose one which you can use to cook anything that you wish inside of it.

Pans

-The same thing for pots is applied to pans. An all-purpose 10′ skillet works very well and if you have trouble with non-stick ones than buy a regular pan and use cooking spray with it.

Toaster Oven

-Conventional Ovens are better than toaster ovens but cost more money and use up too much electricity. With a toaster oven you can use it to cook selected items in much the same fashion that a conventional oven would but also save some cash in the process.

Microwave

-A microwave can be used to both cook/reheat food items and heats items in a very fast manner. Nowadays microwaves aren’t as expensive and are a very useful item to own in the kitchen.

Cutting Board

-If you have any sharp knives whatsoever; it’s a good idea to own a cutting board so that you don’t cut anything on the cupboard and ruin both the cupboard and the sharpness of your knife in the process. It’s also essential when cooking multiple items that may contain simonella and not contaminating other stuff as well.

Rice Cooker

Dell Canada Inc

-Rice can be bought in large quantities and it helps to have a rice cooker on hand. It can also be used to steam beans or barley as well.

Mini Fridge

-Whether you need to freeze some items or simply enjoy cool drinks a mini-fridge is a must-have item. Fridges are simply too expensive for a recent graduate or college student and a mini-fridge will serve its purpose just fine until you have more disposable income with you to buy a real fridge.

Spice Rack with General Spices

-By owning a spice rack, you don’t need to be a chef extraordinaire but a simple spice rack with spices such as salt, pepper, paprika, onion powder , garlic powder and a few other general spices will help you when you want to prepare an actual meal like chicken or steak.

Electric Kettle

-To save time both heating up water and not wasting electricity- buy a kettle. You can use the heated water and store it for as long as 12-14 hrs. with specific kettles and is a good investment.

Coffee Maker

-If you are cramming for finals or simply have company over; a coffee maker is a must-have for the caffeine lovers out there.and finally….

Cookbook

-This item we find holds less meaning in the digital age when you can simply find many recipes for food on a computer with the help of the internet. If, for any reason though, you don’t own a computer or don’t have access to the internet then a cookbook is a necessity to learn how to cook certain items so that you can actually enjoy a home-cooked meal for once.
