Shigeru Miyamoto – February 2008

Posted in: Quote of The Month

Shigeru Miyamoto is a Japanese video game designer. He is the creator of the Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Star Fox and Pikmin video game franchises and has also supervised many other titles including Metroid Prime and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. Miyamoto is often described as the “Father of Modern Videogaming” because of his games’ simplistic storylines, tight gameplay controls and the use of a gamer’s imagination to seek out new worlds and to discover things for themselves. He is currently the Senior Marketing Director of Nintendo and General Manager of Nintendo EAD.In 1998, Miyamoto became the first person to be inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences’ Hall of Fame. During his early childhood, Miyamoto would explore the landscape surrounding his house by exploring hidden caves and lakes and his fascination with the environment would lead to many of the ingredients of his future games. Shigeru’s lovable imagination is why we have chosen him as the quote of the month and here is Shigeru describing his view of an imaginary world to us.

Dell Canada Inc
“What if everything that you see, is more than what you see? The person next to you is a warrior and the space that appears empty is a door to another world? What if something appears that shouldn’t? You either dismiss it or accept that there is more to the world that you think. Perhaps it is really a doorway, and if you choose to go inside, you’ll find many unexpected things.” – Shigeru Miyamoto
