Ultimate Sloppy Joe

Posted in: Food

The loyal people on this site love burgers. We see lots of new burger joints opening up with lots of cool new menu items. One thing we don’t ever see on the menu are sloppy joes. Sloppy joes (or Manwichs as they’re sometimes called) are the ultimate sloppy food that you’ll need to wear an apron with when eating these delicious things. We’ll show you a great traditional way of making these things along with our own little extra ingredient at the end. This food should always be eaten with a pickle or some coleslaw. No exceptions. We don’t really know why but a pickle goes well with any damn sandwich so just eat the pickle and like it!

Ingredients for the sauce: 1 large onion, diced 5 cloves of garlic, mashed and minced 2 roasted red peppers, chopped fine (You can also use a green pepper if you wish but we’re sticking with a red theme here) ΒΌ cup of brown sugar Salt and ground black pepper 2 cups of marinara sauce (or some smoky bbq sauce if you want a more smokehouse flavored taste to the manwich) 1 tablespoon of Worchester sauce 1/2 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon

Now the first thing that you want to do is to take some ground beef (lean beef is good) and cook that in a skillet. Break it up real good. Obviously, we’re going to need this beef later on as it’s the main part of our recipe. Now, let’s get to the most important part which is the sauce.

1. Take a skillet and add one or two teaspoons of olive oil in it

2. Take the onions and peppers and brown them in a skillet for about seven minutes until the peppers and onions are soft.

3. Add garlic into the mix and stir for another few minutes

4. Add marinara sauce to the mix along with the apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, cumin, salt, pepper , Worchester sauce and cinnamon.Stir all of this together for about five minutes. Your sauce should be done by now but we want to make it extra sloppy so we’re going to put it in a big blender and puree the mix so that it comes out extra smooth and liquidy.

5. We mix the sauce with the beef and let it cook for a few minutes so that the sauce can thicken up a bit. We want a nice and thick texture and don’t want a complete watery mess.

—Looking good so far!—

6. Ok,we’re almost at the finish line. It’s time for the secret ingredient that will give us some extra flavor. Cheese! Actually, strong yellow cheddar cheese to be more precise. You could add a spicy cheese like jalapeno cheddar but we want a cheese that has a strong flavor but isn’t as spicy otherwise it takes away from the sweetness of the brown sugar.

Finally, you can place the saucy goop on a hamburger bun. Some people put them on a kaiser roll but we’re going for a burger here and not some sandwich that you would find at your local deli. You now have your very own sloppy joe. We should warn you now that you’ve made one -that you’ll have just as much fun having this mess of a food digesting out the bottom of your body as you did enjoying this food going through your mouth. That’s because the real party begins in the bathroom.
