The ipod Shuffle is the latest Ipod creation from Apple. But unlike its predecessors, Apple decided to actually scale back for a bit and create a cheaper, more affordable Ipod. The new Ipod Shuffle features both 512 mb or 1 GB of flash memory support and comes without a display screen. The point of the new ipod is to give consumers a cheaper alternative to their
previous hard drive-like ipods and give them something that they can take with them that’s not only cheaper, but also weighs less and isn’t such a hassle to bring with you wherever you go.

So, for example, I could bring this thing to the gym and listen to music while I exercised without worrying about my heavy ipod crashing to the floor or involve it in other physical activities without worrying about the potential deficit my budget would face if I broke the damn thing. Apple’s new slogan is ‘Life is Random’ which can only help to sell its shuffle mode with its new player. The Ipod shuffle has no display screen as Apple felt that the consumer would rather have more random shuffling and be ‘surprised’ by what came up next as opposed to actually picking what song they wanted to pick next.

Personally, I prefer seeing what I want to play next but in order to save some bucks but you might like the idea of there being no display screen added to the Ipod Shuffle. The sound is also much improved over the previous versions of the Ipod and supports both VBR, AAC, and MP3 up to 320 kilobits per second. Another high point for the Shuffle is its price tag. It’s about 99$ or 145$ U.S for the 1 GB version which is a big improvement compared to its previous 300$-500$ pricetag.

Another thing Apple has going for it is its style. Just like previous versions of the Ipod, the Shuffle comes in a sleek grayish white design that all the kids find so cool these days. While I don’t feel the Ipod Shuffle is the strongest media player on the market right now in its category, it’s certainly not a bad mp3 player by any means and its media hype will certainly help this product sell very well.

This month’s quote of the month comes from an Episode of Family Guy where Peter becomes the president of a Tobacco Company. In this scene,Peter takes some politicians to a strip club in order to pursuade them to vote in favor of smoking. One of the politicians accidentally kills a stripper and then freaks out.

Peter: You may have killed her when you shoved all those dollar bills down her throat, you may have killed her when you hit her with the stool … I don’t know, I’m not a doctor. But I’ll tell you what didn’t kill her … smoking!

As the next generation of video game systems is currently being developed by all 3 companies, (Microsoft,Nintendo,Sony) I can’t help but imagine what might be included in these machines to separate one another from their competitor. So I started to think of what would be the ideal gaming machine on the horizon and what would be included in this machine. Here are some ideas of what I would like to see in the next generation of video game consoles….

1. Standard wireless Controller.

The last time we saw a wireless controller, it was the wave bird on the Nintendo Gamecube and it was a huge hit with consumers. The other two companies followed with their versions of a wireless controller, but nothing could compare to Nintendo’s model. Unfortunately, the Nintendo controller wasn’t originally designed to be apart of the system and was more like a neat addition to the system as Nintendo still had the typical wired controller as their mainstay for all of their systems. It has come to the point where technology is making huge strides in wireless technology and we shouldn’t have to deal with wires anymore. So with that being said, I hope for the next generation of consoles, we dump the wired concept completely and have all video game controllers to be made wireless when you buy a system.

2. Increased Controller Ports.

This may seem odd but only 2 of the 4 systems have 4 controller ports. Sony’s Playstation 2 opted for only 2 controller ports and the option of buying a multi-tap accessory to add additional controllers for game play purposes. This was merely a way of Sony being able to get consumers to shell out more money out of their pockets and hopefully the ps3 will include 4 controller ports when it comes out.

3. The DVD Aspect

One of the major influences of 2 of the systems was that they included DVD playback in their systems. While the DVD player may have not been the greatest piece of hardware manufactured on the planet, it offered consumers an additional reason to buy the game console and gave the consumer a cheap way to be able to watch DVD movies who otherwise couldn’t afford it. The rumours around the internet insist that companies like Microsoft will create different versions of their console that include both DVD support and lighter versions of the system that only include the game console itself.
