Fort Minor is a solo project from Linkin Park frontman Mike Shinoda. It’s a project that was truly personal to Shinoda as he did a relatively large portion of the work on the project by assisting with producing, mixing, sequencing, programming as well as playing almost every musical instrument on the album. The album also was executively produced by none other than Jay Z who had worked previously with Linkin Park on their collaborative Collision Course MTV show/album. The album also features many guest spots by many rising artists such as Common, John Legend, Styles of Beyond, Holly Brook and others. For any fans of Shinoda’s prior work; some may be disappointed to realize that his solo effort is more of a hip-hop effort as opposed to some of Linkin Park’s rap/metal efforts from before. With that being said though, Fort Minor deserves praise in the hip-hop world as a legitimate act that should be recognized by any performer in that environment due to the strong lyrics and music mixed on their album.

The Rising Tied, the much-anticipated debut of Shinoda’s Fort Minor, will be released by Machine Shop Recordings/Warner Bros. and will be out by the new year with 2 hit singles already playing, ‘petrified’ and ‘remember the name’. This month we bring to you James Blunt, British singer extraordinaire, whose debut album, Back To Bedlam, and single releases — especially number one hit “You’re Beautiful” — brought him to fame in 2005. Blunt’s style is a mix between jazz, soul and rock music. Many critics of compared his ability to that of an early Elton John which is quite the compliment for the young Blunt. James can play various instruments including the piano, organ and the guitar. Before becoming a musician, James attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and was a commissioned officer in the British Army.He soon earned the rank of captain and later went to Kosovo as part of a NATO peacekeeping mission. His debut album didn’t initially do well until it was placed in an italian commercial for Vodafone and started to climb the charts in Italy. Coincidentally, it was his third single, ‘you’re beautiful’ that made him a breakout star. The song debuted at #12 in the UK and raised all the way to the #1 position, six weeks after its debut.

The song also allowed his debut album to peak to the #1 position by unseating the record-breaking album X&Y by Coldplay. The song crossed over to the USA in the summer of 2005 and became a top 5 single with radio stations even though it hadn’t officially been released for radioplay yet by Blunt’s recording company. Blunt has since made appearances for Late Night with Conan O’Brien and Saturday Night Live. His debut album is in stores nationwide right now so check him out.

The Bloodhound Gang are a rock/rap band that hail from King of Prussia, Pennsylvania and formed in 1994. They are known as a band that doesn’t hold anything back and gained popularity for their obscene and crude humour in their songs. Their songs also include many taboo subjects that other bands won’t touch but The Bloodhoung Gang will gladly talk about in all of their albums. Those subjects include such things as ‘Rape’, ‘Gay humour’ and ‘incest’ just to name a few.

After the band formed in 1994, they released the Dingleberry Haze EP which became a flop and cost them their record deal with Columbia Records at the time. They resigned with Geffen and in 1996 released ‘One Fierce Beer Coaster’ which became the band’s first successful album. The success of this album allowed them to return in 2000 with their follow up album ‘Hooray for Boobies’.

They scored a massive hit single with the song ‘The Bad Touch’ that helped them break into mainstream success with loads of press for the song from outlets like MTV. With their increase in publicity also came backlash from other groups like GLAAD( Gay And Lesbian Alliance), who felt that their video for their hit single depicted gay bashing by showing two gay looking Frenchmen getting hit in the back of the head with a loaf of bread and carried away by members of the band.

The band denied the claim and simply stated that the video made fun of the French and not gay people. After the success of their second album, the band disappeared off the face of the earth. The band simply disappeared with many fans wondering what they were up to and when they could expect a new album from the band.Music stations like MuchMusic in Canada described the band as a one hit wonder and critics were waiting to see when the band would make a follow up to their 2000 success of ‘Hooray For Boobies’. The band showed up quietly in 2004 by appearing on MTV Personality Bam Margera’s hit TV Series ‘Viva La Bam’ as both Bam and members of the band live in Pennsylvania and are supposedly good friends.

Finally, in 2005, news came out that the band were releasing their long awaited follow up to ‘Hooray For Boobies’ with the release of the album ‘Hefty Fine’ coming to stores in the fall of 2005. The band’s first single “Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo” (Which is Military Code for the word ‘Fuck’) has already gained heavy rotation on music video channels such as MTV,MuchMusic and on the radio and includes good friend Bam Margera throughout the video. Check out their new album when it hits stores…
