Paul Banks : vocals & guitar
Daniel Kessler : guitar & background vocals
Carlos D. : bass guitar, keyboards & background vocals
Samuel Fogarino : drums
Eric : keyboards (live)

This group started out after a choice meeting between two members of the band in a New York University History class. Guitarist Daniel Kessler then found a mutual acquaintance in fellow band member Carlos Dengler who had regained his passion for music after taking some time away from his guitar. Kessler later bumped into fellow friend Paul Banks whom he had spent time with before in France and who soon decided to join the band as well.

The band began touring in 2000 in various areas of New York like the Mercury Lounge and also did a brief tour of the U.K in 2001. In 2002 the band released its highly anticipated first LP “Turn on the Bright Lights” which made them indie stars and soon had them touring around the world. Their latest album “Antics” came out in 2004 and their music video “Evil” is being highly rotated on MTV television so check it out.

Often compared to fellow European rockers Coldplay, Keane formed in 1997 while they were attending school. The band form as a 4piece (Tom – vocals and guitar; Dom – Lead guitar and keyboards; Tim – Bass and keyboards; Richard – Drums). In 2001, Dom leaves the band due to the lack of success and musical differences. In 2002, after the loss of their guitarist and a period of time honing their sound, Keane decided that they needed to get out and play gigs again. The booked two acoustic shows and had the luck of having a major music executive at one of them who liked their performance so much that he asked the group to create a single for his label. They chose ‘Everybody’s Changing’, a sweet melodic song in response to where they were in their lives as in the band’s opinion, everybody seemed to know what they were doing while the band seemed to be stuck in limbo.

The song quickly garnered a lot of attention and was declared by the label head as being one of the finest songs to ever be recorded for the label. This was quite the comment as this is one of the same labels that recorded earlier recordings from Supergrass and yes,Coldplay as well. The band soon began live appearances for The BBC and went on their first UK tour. By the time spring 2003 rolled around, the boys were out on the road again, and labels were already putting offers on the table. “All we were after was the opportunity to make the right record with the right people,” Tom shrugs – which is where Island stepped in. “We’ve never wanted to be a small, cult band,” Tom adds. “We want to get our music heard by as many people as we possibly can, because that’s why we’re making it.”

Unfortunately, in my opinion, too much media attention and fuss was put on Coldplay which is a decent band but not nearly as good as the attention that is given to them and Keane’s media coverage was buried a little due to all of the Coldplay nonsense going on in the U.S. Luckily, the Coldplay firestorm as calmed down slightly and quite a few media outlets are paying attention to the band. The band’s single ‘Everybody’s Changing’ was recently added to MTV’s Playlist and is currently on the One Tree Hill Soundtrack. Their debut album, Hopes and Fears, has also gone Gold in the United States. Look out for plenty more from this band and in the meantime go out and buy their debut album, Hopes and Fears,Nationwide.

Modest Mouse gets the honour of being in BoobNewb’s Artist spotlight. This Indie rock act formed in 1993 with vocalist/guitarist Isaac Brock, bassist Eric Judy, and drummer Jeremiah Green. The band had been flowing around different labels for a while releasing LPs and EPs until they finally came aboard the revamped Lollapalooza Tour in 2004. 2004 also brought the release of their latest and critically acclaimed album; Good News for People Who Love Bad News.

Epitomic.com describes the band’s style as being best known in indie rock circles for its angular, warping chords, poetic, desolate lyrics, and intricate, mesmerizing drums.“Since their inauspicious beginnings in a shed outside an Issaquah trailer park, Modest Mouse (named for an obscure reference to the American middle class) has become the class of the indie rock world, spokesmen for that huge group of smart misfits who skulk around decrepit pool tables in unfashionable bars and slouch behind messy record store counters, grown-up kids who like their rock intelligent, weird, and edgy.”

Don’t forget to download or buy their latest album, “Good News for People who like Bad News”.
