Jamie Foxx (born Eric Marlon Bishop on December 13, 1967 in Terrell, Texas) is an American actor, comedian, and Contemporary R&B singer. He won the 2005 Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in Ray, a biopic about the life of the late musician Ray Charles. He is the fourth person in history to have a #1 album and to have won an Academy Award. Although Foxx has played the piano for many years, it was a cameo appearance in rap artist Twista’s hit single ‘Slow Jamz’ that the world caught on to Foxx’s musical talent. He had also previously released an album in 1994 with the Fox Record Label but the album went virtually unnoticed.
Foxx continued his musical talents by lending his vocal talents on 50 cent’s massacre album as well as appearing in Kanye West’s ‘Gold Digger’ single which topped the Billboard Top 100. During the 2005 Grammy Awards, Foxx performed live with Alicia Keys and Quincy Jones singing “Georgia on My Mind” in tribute to the late Ray Charles. Foxx also continues to be an actor and will be featured in several upcoming blockbuster movies including the movie adaptation of Miami Vice.
He has also released a second album entitled ‘Unpredictable’ with 2 singles that include ‘ Unpredictable’ (featuring Ludacris) and ‘Extravaganza’ (featuring Kanye West). The album reached #2 on the billboard charts in its first week and soon reached the #1 spot the next week selling over 200 000 copies. Foxx is currently nominated for a 2005 Grammy Award for Best R&B Male Vocal Performance (“Creepin”). Check out his latest album ‘Unpredictable’ which is on sale in stores nationwide right now.
