Roger Ebert is an award winning American film critic and screenwriter. His reviews can be read in more than 200 newspapers worldwide. Ebert began writing reviews for the Chicago Sun-Times in 1969 and would later go on to host a syndicated movie review show called “At The Movies with Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert” for nearly 22 years before Siskel’s death in 1999. Ebert would find a replacement in fellow Sun-Times columnist Richard Roeper and the two would go on to continue reviewing films until Ebert’s recent health problems caused him to take a leave of absence from the show.Also, Ebert co-wrote the screenplay for the 1970 cult film Beyond the Valley of the Dolls alongside famous exploitation director Russ Meyer. Meyer and Ebert would go on to produce a few other films that were quietly forgotten about over time. Another signature part of Ebert that shouldn’t be forgotten when discussing about him is his use of the thumbs up/down system that helped to make Siskel and him famous when reviewing films. The two would often be included in movie previews for giving a film “2 thumbs up” as a seal of their approval for the film. Ebert has done a great job at reviewing films, and while his reviews may cause criticism from time to time; his opinions are always valid and to the point.
