Leslie Nielsen was a Canadian comedic actor best known for his roles in films such as ‘Airplane’ and ‘The Naked Gun’ Trilogy. He began his career doing serious roles in films such as ‘Forbidden Planet’ and ‘The Poseidon Adventure’. His comedic talents would be showcased in the film ‘Airplane’ where his character’s serious tone and obliviousness to his surroundings would become his main recognized talent which would later be featured in many spoof and parody films later on in his career such as ‘Reposessed’ and ‘2001 – A Space Travesty’. Also, Nielsen was a big golf fan and even helped to make several funny instructional videos of the sport. Leslie has won several awards and has a received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Canadian Walk of Fame and received the Order of Canada in 2001. Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan is a former professional wrestling manager and commentator who has been in the wrestling business for over 50 years. He has been the manager for such great wrestlers as Andre The Giant, the Blackjacks, Rick Rude, Harley Race and many more. He would often manage a group of heel wrestlers in an alliance that he called ‘Heenan’s family’ and his alliance would show up in many different wrestling organizations throughout his career. In 1986, Heenan would become a color commentator on WWF’s PrimeTime Wrestling. In 1993, Heenan decided to retire but came back a year later and joined WCW as a color commentator because it was only a couple of hours away from his home and because the company offered health insurance which was a good thing for Heenan who had broken his neck in Japan and was still suffering side effects from the injury. In 2000, he was released from WCW and has since made sporadic appearances at wrestling events but has mainly kept a low profile since his battle with throat cancer. Heenan would often play the heel commentator and refer to his audience as ‘Humanoids’. He would often go on long rants about topics until his broadcast partner at the time (Gorilla Monsoon) would interrupt and yell “Would you Stop?” Here is Bobby Heenan discussing his thoughts on midgets being in the Royal Rumble match…

Mountain Dew is a carbonated soft drink that was invented in the 1940s. It has a toxic green colour and has a citric-flavoured taste. The brand was acquired by Pepsico in 1964 and was later produced nationally across North America. The brand has gone through several logo replacements since its creation. The original logo featured a mountaineer near a large mountain but has since been changed to a more hip and eye-catching logo to try and attract a younger audience into drinking the soda. In the 90s, Mountain Dew was strongly marketed towards younger people as the company tried to show ads featuring extreme sports to try and show Mountain Dew as an alternative brand compared to other soft drinks such as Coca-Cola. PepsiCo has continued with these ads and has become a major sponsor of extreme sports events across the nation with events such as the Dew Tour which feature skateboarding and BMX events. Recently, the company has been a promoter of video games and even launched their own brand called Mountain Dew Game Fuel that was a promotion with the video game ‘Halo 3’. The company’s latest advertising promotion is called ‘FanDewMonium’ which allows Mountain Dew fans to vote online for their favorite new version of Mountain Dew which will be launched nationwide after the winning drink is announced. Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja is a 1988 beat em game that is known as much for its hilarious dialog as it is for its game play. Beat em up games such as Tecmo’s Double Dragon video game were insanely popular around this time and video game developer Data East tried to capitalize on this popularity by coming up with their own beat em up style of video game. The game starts off in New York City with president Ronald Reagan being kidnapped by a bunch of Ninjas. It’s too bad that when the game was finally published that Reagan had been replaced already by president George W. Bush. A secret service agent then drops down and issues a challenge to the video game user by declaring that “President Ronnie has been kidnapped by the ninjas. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue Ronnie?” This sentence could have been our quote of the month instantly but we’ll wait till the end of the game for another great quote. The bad dudes Blade and Striker then go through the sewers and alleyways kicking ninja ass until they reach the secret ninja base and are finally able to save the president. The ending of the game then features the bad dudes with the president back in Washington D.C. in front of the White House where the president declares this favorite quote at the end of the game…

“Hey Dudes Thanks, For Rescuing Me, Let’s Go For A Burger….HA! HA! HA! HA!”

Get Smart was a television comedy series in the 1960s that was a satirical look at the special agent genre. The television show lasted from 1965 to 1970 and also included 2 movies that were made with one being a theatrical release and the other being a made for TV movie that aired on ABC in 1989. The television show has recently received a reboot of sorts with actor Steve Carell reprising the role of Maxwell Smart in the 2008 film version of the show. The series centers around Agent 86 Maxwell Smart who works for a counter-intelligence agency and tries to save the world from the evil corporation known as Kaos. Smart’s incompetence is usually an eyesore for his team as he constantly complicates every mission that he’s involved with but somehow is able to save the day due to an unbelievable lucky streak that followed him wherever he goes. Max is clumsy and awkward and most of his fellow team members or people that he meets think that he’s a complete dummy. In this month’s quote, we demonstrate Smart’s inability to understand a series of simple instructions from his boss…

“Now listen carefully: [gives a series of complex instructions] Did you get that? Max: Not all of it. Chief: Which part didn’t you get? Max: The part after ‘Now listen carefully’ “.
