Harry Houdini was a magician, escape artist and stunt performer. He’s the one magician that every rookie magician wants to imitate. His career started off slow but soon his escape acts would catch the world’s attention. He would go on to perform such great escape acts like freeing himself from jails, handcuffs, chains, ropes, and straitjackets, often while hanging from a rope in plain sight of street audiences. His acts would often involve a large degree of danger or even death and would cause large audiences to gather whenever he performed one of his acts. He also spent a large amount of his time debunking mediums or psychics and calling them out as frauds. He was a believer in science and not spirituality and believed that the mind was the most powerful asset of a human being. Here is one of his better quotes discussing the human mind.

“What the eye see and the ears hear, the mind believes.” – Harry Houdini

Sir Arthur Charles Clarke is a British author and inventor, most famous for his science-fiction novel 2001: A Space Odyssey, and for collaborating with director Stanley Kubrick on the film of the same name. Clarke’s work is marked by an optimistic view of science empowering mankind’s exploration of the solar system. His early published stories would usually feature the extrapolation of a technological innovation or scientific breakthrough into the underlying decadence of his own society. He later elaborated on his optimism of the future by creating three “laws” of prediction. We will use his second law for the month of June which we think best describes his train of thought on the future.

“The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.”

Source: the essay Hazards of Prophecy: The Failure of Imagination, in his book Profiles of the Future (1962); This statement is often referred to as “Clarke’s Second Law”

If you haven’t yet noticed; we here at BoobNewb love vending machines. We love them because they provide goodies in a quick and timely manner for lazy people like us. In North America, we’re pretty tame when it comes to vending machines. In countries like the Netherlands, you can get fast food meals out of vending machines and in Japan they sell everything from shoes to women’s panties in vending machines. We simply sell chips, chocolate bars and on the rare occasion a nice bagel or sandwich. There are many companies and entrepreneurs that are trying to find new ways to use vending machine technology to enrich our lives. Here are a few neat concepts surrounding vending machines that you may see being used in the near future.

Energy Vending Machine

This vending machine is used to charge up electronics such as PDAs , MP3 players, cell phones and other such electronic devices. The ChargeBox offers a solution, which consists of 6 small lockers, each with 4 unique chargers that can power 90% of our mobile devices. Many airports don’t allow the recharging of electronics due to energy consumption concerns so this vending machine is designed to allow users to pay a fee and have their items recharged for them in about one hour’s time.

Instant Moto Vending Machine

Motorola has come up with a great new vending machine that offers cell phones and cell phone accessories to users in high traffic areas. It can be a pain in the ass to have lost a cell phone or charger and have all the electronics stores closed. This option will allow users to purchase these things in case they ever run into a situation like this where they need a cell phone or charger right away without hesitation.
