Sir Arthur Charles Clarke is a British author and inventor, most famous for his science-fiction novel 2001: A Space Odyssey, and for collaborating with director Stanley Kubrick on the film of the same name. Clarke’s work is marked by an optimistic view of science empowering mankind’s exploration of the solar system. His early published stories would usually feature the extrapolation of a technological innovation or scientific breakthrough into the underlying decadence of his own society. He later elaborated on his optimism of the future by creating three “laws” of prediction. We will use his second law for the month of June which we think best describes his train of thought on the future.

“The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.”

Source: the essay Hazards of Prophecy: The Failure of Imagination, in his book Profiles of the Future (1962); This statement is often referred to as “Clarke’s Second Law”

People like to vacation in the summer and what better place to travel than Australia?! Australia’s international tourism campaigns have largely centered around the image of Australia as a wild , almost uninhabited continent, with all manner of exotic scenery and wildlife, endless beaches, large coastal cities and friendly, relaxed locals.Advertising is often criticized in Australia as presenting an unrealistic and embarrassing image of Australians and Australia as unsophisticated and uncultured but the approach seems to have succeeded in attracting visitors. Most countries like to promote themselves with simple slogans about exploration or beauty but Australia likes to be different and offers the world a unique slogan about their beautiful country. So, in May (when you’re planning your vacation), please take into account Australia’s new tourism slogan that will be sure to persuade you to come and visit their country.

For April we decided to add a spray of Obsession to our quote of the month. Calvin Klein is a well-known American fashion designer. His name is also a brand name of clothing marketed by his company, which was launched in 1968. Calvin Klein also gave his name to a range of perfumes, including CK One, CK Be and CK Obsession. Calvin Klein used this catchy advertising slogan (CK Obsession) to lure people into wearing his perfume and its so catchy that it’s our quote of the month.

“Between love and madness lies Obsession.” — Calvin Klein

Moby Dick is an 1851 novel by Herman Melville. The novel describes the voyage of the whaling ship Pequod, led by Captain Ahab, who leads his crew on a hunt for the whale Moby-Dick. The novel initially received negative reviews but has since been known as one of the most popular pieces of literature in the English language. The first line of the book (“Call me Ishmael”) is one of the most famous in American literature. The opening line may be the most famous in American literature but there are many other popular quotes from this novel. For the purposes of our quote this month, we will be using another lesser-known quote from Moby Dick. In our quote, Ahab describes his distaste for the whale Shakespeare style.

“Aye, aye! It was that accursed white whale that razeed me; made a poor pegging lubber of me for ever and a day!” Then tossing both arms, with measureless imprecations he shouted out: “Aye, aye! and I’ll chase him round Good Hope, and round the Horn, and round the Norway Maelstrom, and round perdition’s flames before I give him up. And this is what ye have shipped for, men! to chase that white whale on both sides of land, and over all sides of earth, till he spouts black blood and rolls fin out.”

This month, we bring a classic Nintendo video game to our exclusive listings with the sports title ‘Punch-Out!!’. Also commonly referred to as Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!, this video game is a boxing game in which you fight many different cartoon-like characters that each have their own unique strengths and weaknesses until you reach the final villain, Mike Tyson. There were many humorous characters from this video game but one that stood out for me was King Hippo. After each round, King Hippo would insult you with a different quote to try and get your morale down. Here is one of those quotes used to insult and humiliate the gamer during gameplay.

-“I feel like eating. After I win, lets go to lunch! Ha Ha Ha!”
