The only thing we enjoy more than sleeping is eating and drinking stuff. In order to eat and drink, we’re going to need some cool electronics to make sure that out drinks stay nice and cool and that our food doesn’t spoil prematurely. We decided to take a look at some cool new fridges that are both technologically advanced as well as artistically pleasing. Some of these fridges are concept ideas that may never make it to a department store near you while others are more basic fridges but are very cool to look at.

Electrolux Modular Refrigerator

-The modular refrigerator was designed for students living in dorm rooms. The fridge starts off with a base unit and can have new fridges mounted on top of each other depending on how many students are living together. This gives each student their own personal fridge as well as their own personal lock so that no other student can steal milk or cookies from someone else when they get the late night munchies.

Norcool Fridge

-The norcool fridge in a drawer is pretty self-explanatory. The fridge is designed so that the doors can open up like drawers underneath your countertops instead of the more traditional modular design of the fridge. This helps to create more space in a normally crowded kitchen and helps to place more food in a more compact setting. The fridge is small and only uses a maximum power consumption of 105 watts. With space becoming a major issue in homes, we figure we’ll start seeing more fridges like this one in many homes very soon.

USB Mini Fridge

-Not all fridges need to be massive in size. Let’s say your playing your favorite PC game and don’t wish to get out of your seat. You suddenly get really thirsty but need to keep playing until the game is over or else risk losing your top spot in the game. The USB mini fridge is perfect for these occasions as the fridge can be placed right next to your PC and can be powered up by your PC’s USB port. The fridge has a tiny LED light that turns on when you open the fridge. Apparently it takes less than five minutes to chill one can of soda and you can chill twelve cans of soda in less than one hour. In addition, the fridge is cheap and sells for less than 50$ making it a great gift for the geeky friend that you know who would love this as a stocking stuffer during the holiday season.

Samsung Fridge by Gro

-This fridge was designed to act more like a piece of furniture for people who want to have a fridge that blends in with its surroundings in a room. The hinges can be taken off the fridge and be placed either vertically or horizontally depending on one’s own personal choice. The contemporary design is good for those that have difficulty cleaning their appliances as its design allows someone to clean underneath it with a mop or broom quite comfortably without having to get down on their hands and knees and scrub.

Garden Fridge

Dell Canada Inc

-We’ve seen kitchens that are designed to help you grow your own food but we’ve yet to see this concept designed right into the fridge. The kitchen fridge will allow an individual to grow a herb or vegetable plant from seed and allow people to enjoy fresh produce all year long. Details on how this is made possible are still sketchy but the device will supposedly allow you to use the right amount of light, water and temperature to keep items such as lettuce growing longer than they’re supposed to and having fresh herbs ready whenever you need them. This will help to cut down on the grocery bill, reduce global warming by requiring less trips to the store and have fresh herbs at your disposal rather than the need for dried spices which aren’t as fresh tasting.

Raw Garbage Refrigerator

-We don’t know who Raw Garbage is or why he’s called Raw Garbage but he certainly has an eye for talent. Mr. garbage took an old beat up regular white fridge and transformed it into a comic book and stencil work of art. Anytime you can take a plain looking device and give some life to it and make it look great is a winning fridge in our opinion.

Bio Robot Refrigerator

-The winner for weirdest and coolest fridge entry goes to the bio robot fridge by Electrolux. A bio polymer gel helps to keep each food item cool through luminescence and the strong surface tension of the gel helps to keep each food item secure and separate from other food items once they’re placed inside the fridge. The fridge can be placed vertically, horizontally or even on the ceiling (although we don’t know what that would accomplish) and is also much smaller than a standard sized fridge.

LG Internet Refrigerator

-The LG internet fridge is a 730-liter, side-by-side, stainless steel fridge with internet capabilities. Besides cooling your items; this fridge can let you surf the web, listen to mp3 music, do a video chat, watch television, upload photos and more on the fridge’s built in LCD monitor. Also, the fridge has a built-in inventory system that will allow you to keep up with how many items need to be restocked or how long a certain item has been stored in your fridge so that your food is always fresh and can be thrown out when appropriate. The fridge will retail at 15 999$ which is steep for most people but we hope that the price will be more affordable once more users begin to purchase it.

Collapsible, Portable and Green Refrigerator

-This fridge’s simple design is great for people who don’t have enough money to spend on a real fridge or simply don’t have the space needed and want something smart and simple. A circular column can expand upward and the permeable structure allows cold air from the base to rise upward and help cool any items placed inside of it. A great and simple solution for those that don’t want to waste energy.

Marshall Fridge

-Our final item is the Marshall fridge. Its design looks the same as a Marshall stack and it retails for 299$. It’s a cool way to fool friends as well as hide those beers that you don’t want anyone else to steal. Nobody will think twice about looking inside the music box for your secret drink stash!

This concludes our special on fridges. We’re very impressed by the fridges that we’ve seen. While some might not be in your kitchen very soon; we do think that some of these are impressive ideas that shows that the way some of our technology is being used will be drastically changed over the next decade.
