The time has arrived for us to close the book on our series on music that will get you up and out of bed. The songs that will be featured include a famous song from a popular motion picture, a mafia television show intro, a song from a band that breaks up and reconciles every 30 seconds and many others.

Artist: Survivor
Song: Eye of the Tiger

-If you grew up in the 80s then it was pretty hard not get caught up in the Rocky films starring Sylvester Stallone. One of the most memorable moments in the film was when Stallone did his training regimen which concluded with Rocky having to climb a bunch of stairs and throwing his arms up in victory once he reached the top with our wake up song playing in the background. This song is synonymous with the image of Rocky waking up early to train and prepare for his battle in the ring which is the same result that most people will want to feel when they wake up in the morning – the feeling of preparing for battle against whatever obstacles you may face over the course of your day. If that doesn’t prepare you to conquer your day then perhaps these lyrics will help you in your decision; ‘Risin’ up to the challenge of our rival’ and ‘Just a man and his will to survive’.

Artist: Oasis
Song: Morning Glory

-Sometimes people need a good night’s sleep in order to be fresh and recharged for what awaits them the very next day. Other people like to sleep in and don’t like to be woken up when they’re not ready to get up all by themselves. The band Oasis knows this all too well since the two lead members of the band are brothers and can’t be in the same room together for more than a couple of minutes without wanting to claw each other’s brains in with a shovel. The band has broken up more times than we can count but they’re still able to make great music together. This song may have the answer as to why the band members can’t stand each other and it may be found in the lyrics to some of their songs. The lyric ‘ Need a little time to wake up wake up’ tells us that the band members need their beauty sleep or else they wake up cranky and unapproachable for the rest of the day. Sometimes waking up isn’t the answer and sleeping in those extra few minutes can save the day from being a complete and total disaster. This is a great snooze alarm song with the band putting it best with their lyric saying that you should ‘rest your mind because you know you should so you guess you might as well’.

Artist: Nine Inch Nails
Song: Everyday is Exactly the Same

-Well, isn’t this song a Debbie Downer? If you like to start off your day by feeling depressed then this is the song for you. Every day feeling the same as the last day must suck unless the previous day and everyday before that are awesome which would make waking up everyday an awesome experience.Unfortunately, by listening to lyrics which include ‘I used to have a purpose but then it was all a dream’ and looking at the band all dressed up in black I’d say the chances of depression far outweigh the chances of money falling from the sky every morning. If you’re some emo or goth kid who’s idea of a good day is going to the mall and calling everyone a fascist pig like they do on that funny little cartoon called South Park then this is the wake-up song for you.

Artist: Katrina And The Waves
Song: Walking on Sunshine

-If you want a simple song with simple lyrics that will make you feel happier every morning then this is a great song for you. Happy lyrics that constantly throw the words ‘Sunshine’ and ‘Woah Yeah’ at you every two seconds will put anyone in a much better attitude when they wake up. Also, the song title implies that you are walking on sunshine which puts you right up there with Jesus and him walking on water so that puts you in a pretty exclusive club. In addition, the song might make you think about the beach or some other sunny destination like some tropical paradise in the Carribean which will make you want to wake up even faster to get to work and collect those paychecks and escape from whatever crappy destination you’re currently living in.

Artist: A3
Song: Woke Up this Morning

-This song is best remembered as the opening theme song to the hit mafia television program ‘The Sopranos’. If your idea of a good wake up song includes visions of haggling shopkeepers for rent money or blowing up bars for the insurance money then we definitely recommend this song for you. If you work in the waste management industry and prefer to listen to a softer spoken-words song that helps you to remember that you need to break one of Jimmy the Tulip’s legs for non-payment of gambling debts then we hope you give this song a chance on your next playlist.

Artist: Green Day
Song: Wake Me Up When September Ends

-This is an exclusive track to be played on October 1st since apparently the month of September sucks in the eyes of Green Day. This song talks a lot about the stars and about how the years are passing us by too quickly that we almost wished we did more with our lives and took the dog out for a walk more often and didn’t hesitate and should have bought that dumbbell set when it was priced at 50% off the sticker price. Damn. Instead, let’s try to focus on the positives of September instead. There’s apple picking in the month of September .Umm, there’s labor day but we’re not quite sure what we’re supposed to celebrate on this day. School usually starts in September. People like school don’t they? Yeah, you’re right September isn’t the greatest month but if you want to remind yourself of this little fact every morning in September when you wake up then this would be a good choice out of the bunch to choose from.

Artist: Sting
Song: Brand New Day

-We’re at the end of our leash and our final wake up song is the song ‘Brand New Day’ by Sting. We love this song because it’s the most inconclusive song out of all of the songs that we’ve highlighted so far. A brand new day can mean lots of different things to lots of different people. One person can wake up and their brand new day involves getting hit by a bus while crossing the sidewalk. Another person might win the lottery. Another person might wake up and have a penis drawn on their face after getting too drunk and passing out the night before. The possibilities for this song are endless and if you’re a positive thinking person than waking up to this song will mean many great things will happen to you over the course of your day while a pessimistic person might think otherwise and feel as though the day is going to suck for them. This is the crap shoot that you’re faced with every morning or night when you wake up and we hope that you make the right decision on how you want your day to start off and what type of music or musician you want to be listening to in order to wake up on the right path everyday of your lives.

Thanks for reading our series on wake-up music and if you have any others that you think would be a great addition to our list then feel free to include the artist and the song title in the comments section.
