It’s back to school time for most kids and we thought we would start the month of August off with a school-themed quote of the month courtesy of the television show ‘Saved by the Bell’. The television show is based on the adventures of a bunch of high school students and their principal at Bayside High school in California. The show would launch the careers of several of its stars including Mario Lopez and Tiffani-Amber Thiessen while other stars such as Dustin Diamond and Mark-Paul Gosselaar had trouble escaping being typecast for their roles on the program. The main character played by Gosselaar is Zack Morris who is popular student at the school and is always trying to find an excuse to skip school and have fun. A large percentage of the episodes deal with Zack’s schemes to skip school by creating elaborate plans that end up backfiring and having to deal with principal Richard Belding played by actor Dennis Haskins.

Another recurring theme in most episodes deals with Zack’s interests in All-American Sweetheart Kelly Kapowski. This storyline would go on for several seasons with Zack and AC Slater trying to outwit each other in order to win Kelly’s love but ultimately Zack would prevail and AC would then go on to date Jesse Spano played by actress Elizabeth Berkley. The show would go on to feature 2 spin-offs which included ‘Saved by the Bell – The College Years’ and ‘Saved by the Bell – The New Class’ which featured a whole new cast of characters with Screech and Mr. Belding being the only characters from the original show to return. We finish off by giving you one of Zack Morris’ quotes on school tests from the episode entitled ‘Zack in the Gift’.

“The three worst things that can happen to a kid are measles, mumps, and midterms.” – Zack Morris

This is a Canadian web site so every month in July will be dedicated to a quote that is uniquely Canadian from now on. There’s no better way to celebrate Canada Day then with brothers Bob and Doug Mckenzie. Bob and Doug hosted ‘The Great White North’ which was a weekly comedy sketch that aired on SCTV on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation back in the 1980s. Actors Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas did their best impersonations of two individuals who were attached to every single Canadian stereotype such as using the words ‘EH?” a lot or by drinking lots of beer and eating donuts. The sketch comedy routine would go on to influence other comedians such as Michael Myers who would do a similar routine known as ‘Wayne’s World’ years later for Saturday Night Live. They reached the height of their popularity when they were given the starring role as themselves in the feature film ‘Strange Brew’ as well as a hit comedy album that reached #20 on the billboard charts and their very own Christmas album. They would also appear as themselves in comedy routines for Budweiser and Pizza Hut. In 2009, an animated series called ‘Bob & Doug’ began to air on the Global television network in Canada starring Dave Coulier and Dave Thomas with Moranis aboard as an executive producer of the show.

Happy Canada day everybody and here’s a great quote from Bob and Doug Eh?

“Bob: “Hose head/hoser!”. – Bob Mckenzie

Henry Royce is the co-founder of the Rolls-Royce automobile manufacturer. Royce began his career by making dynamos and electric cranes under a limited liability company called F.H. Royce & Company. Increased competition of the same product from countries such as Germany and the United States caused Henry to re-think his company’s position in the market and to consider looking into automobile production. Royce was unimpressed with the model cars out on the market and purchased a few only to modify them and to try and make them better by fixing them up in the corner of his workshop at his company. One of Royce’s friends would aid Royce in getting the cars shown at a showroom where he would go on to meet Charles Rolls who was interested in purchasing some of the models of Royce that were on display.

Royce and Charles would create a partnership and their first Rolls-Royce model car was unveiled at the Paris Salon in December 1904. Henry was known for being a perfectionist and even in ill-health wanted to know all the intricate details of what was going on with each model car’s design specifications to make sure that they were perfect. The car industry hasn’t had much optimism lately with the announcement of General Motors being under bankruptcy protection but with the re-branding of the company under way hopefully some of the executives in the company will have the same passion about cars as Henry Royce did. Here’s a quote from Henry on his ideas about perfectionism…

“Strive for perfection in everything you do. Take the best that exists and make it better. If it doesn’t exist, create it. Accept nothing as nearly right or good enough”. – Henry Royce

Jersey Shore is an American reality television program that premiered on MTV in 2009. The show is about a bunch of men and women from New York and New Jersey who stay near the Jersey Shore in a house and the plot is very much similar to another MTV reality program – MTV’s ‘Real World’. The show has been criticized for its portrayal of Italian-Americans but has been getting record ratings for MTV. One of the more interesting characters on the show is Michael ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino. His nickname is based on the nickname he gave to his abs and he is often discussing his GTL (Gym, Tanning, Laundry) philosophy with current castmember and friend Pauly D. He is one of the more outspoken cast members and when he’s not at the gym he’s often trying to get girls at the club to come back to the Jersey Shore house and sleep with him. The Situation is no Shakespeare but he is known to come up with funny quotes to try and impress a girl or to lighten the tension in the house. Here is the situation describing how he is not only a funny guy but can also be pretty serious as well…

“Some days I’m Uncle Situation, other days I’m Dr. Situation, I’m Chef Situation.. Bang Your Girl Situation… I’m like a pretty deep dude.” – Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino
