In Part Two of our series on Songs that will wake you up – we continue to bring you even more songs that hopefully will wake you up and get your day started in the right direction. We decided to throw a little 80s pop in your direction, a song who’s title can’t make it any more clear to you what it’s trying to tell you with the song ‘Wake Up’, a song with a full symphony orchestra in the background and a little metalcore to finish it all up.

Artist: Stone Temple Pilots
Song: Days of the Week

-This is a great song if you want to wake up and shoot yourself in the head. Ok, we here at BoobNewb don’t actually endorse anyone to shoot themselves in the head but the Stone Temple Pilots clearly do with the lyric that says ‘Tuesday, shoot me in the head’. Sometimes lyrics try to be complex metaphors that are really attempting to say something important but in actuality mean something completely different. There’s no metaphor here when the band is clearly telling you that Tuesdays suck and you should shoot yourself in the head to avoid the rest of the week. If that doesn’t brighten up your day, how about these lyrics: ‘Mondays gone’, ‘Tuesdays fadin’, ‘Wednesdays gone’, ‘Thursdays all but wasted now’. They didn’t get to Friday, Saturday or Sunday but if they did it would have gone something like this: ‘Fridays Gone’, ‘Saturdays are Dead’, ‘Sundays Don’t Bother Waking up and Sleep In’. If anything, this is the official anti-wake up song because the band is basically telling you that the days of the week suck and that you might as well sleep in and watch talk shows. If you hate life and prefer to just hit the snooze button on your alarm clock then this may be the song for you.

Artist: Van Halen
Song: Jump

-When I was in Elementary school ,we used to have to skip rope once a year in order to help raise funds for cancer research. Apparently the school either must have had a low number of songs to play over the PA system or had a licensing deal with Van Halen because it was the only song they played all day long. The song ‘Jump’ is a great 80s hair metal ballad that is great if you feel like jumping out of bed and want to constantly jump around or get up and then go do some exercises. We recommend this song to all those hyper people loaded up on sugar or some other type of vitamin or drug who want to get up early and get a good quick jump start to their day.

Artist: Wham
Song: Wake me Up

-This song’s lyrics which include ‘You Put the Boom Boom Into My Heart’ and ‘Jitterbug into my Brain’ sounds more like a mix between the films ‘Star Trek: Wrath of Khan’ and ‘Crank’ than a song about getting up and going dancing tonight. The cheesy lyrics from this song along with the weird 80s attire in the music video is great for anyone who wants to wake up thinking that they’re in an 80s teen comedy or have an audition for a musical on Broadway later in the day.

Artist: Elvis Costello
Song: Welcome to the Working Week

-Finally, a song to wake up to that was written for the blue collar working man. A song that tells other people to get off their lazy asses and to get up and get to work so that you survive the week and can get some well-deserved rest and relaxation when you’ve earned it on the weekend. Elvis says it best himself with the lyric ‘You gotta do it till you’re through it so you better get to it’ which is way better than we could have ever said it here on this website.

Artist: The Verve
Song: Bittersweet Symphony

-This song is the first that we’ve recommended that actually includes a symphony orchestra playing music in the background. The song talks about making ends meet and earning money until you die and at one point tells you to be a million different people from one day to the next. We think this song would be a great wake up call for people with multiple personality disorder or for those who enjoy playing dress up. Also, if you’re a secret agent who needs to constantly change his appearance in order to avoid detection then this is the wake up song for you!

Artist: Killswitch Engage
Song: Daylight Dies

-Not everybody has the luxury of waking up in the morning. Lots of people need to work the night shift or are the undead and don’t have a choice but to wake up at night. This is why the song ‘Daylight Dies’ is a great song for all of those nocturnal people out there who prefer to wake up once the daylight officially vanishes and only the darkness of the night remains. The song includes the lyric ‘How long can we ignore the sound’. In our case, we can ignore the sound when you hit that tiny button on your alarm clock that says ‘OFF’ and go back to bed.

Artist: Arcade Fire
Song: Wake Up

-There’s no need to dumb down the explanation of the title to this song. This band makes it quite obvious with the title of their song that is the whole point of this article up until this point. We wish that we could tell you that this song has something to do with waking up but unfortunately we have no clue what the lyrics to this song are trying to tell people nor do we have a clue what the lyrics to any Arcade Fire are trying to tell people as most of the lyrics make absolutely no sense to us. ‘Children Wake Up, Hold Your Mistake Up, Before the Summer Turns To Dust’. Huh? What? All that we know is that the song title has the words ‘Wake Up’ in it and the song is pretty catchy and that’s good enough for us right now.
