H.I.M is a love-metal band from Finland. The name used to stand for His-Internal-Majesty but now is simply used as an acronym, and the band has even said that the name of their band doesn’t really have any significance and is easily translatable in many languages. Some people classify them as either goth-metal or dealing with satanism but this isn’t the case as H.I.M. discusses issues on an emotional level that doesn’t deal with anything bad or evil. One of the reasons people get mixed up about the band’s intentions is their band’s logo which has a pentagram and a heart mixed together.

The logo is merely a symbol of emotion and doesn’t deal with anything satanic or evil in any way. The band says the heartagram deals with the contrast between love and hate or love and death. One of the reasons that H.I.M. has managed to reach such success is their ability to sing in english. The band started to sing english songs in their home country which took many people by surprise since other bands in the area were signing their native Scandinavian language.

The name death cab for cutie comes from a satirical song performed by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band on their 1967 album Gorilla and was also also performed in a striptease act in The Beatles’s movie Magical Mystery Tour. The band hails from Bellingham, Washington and formed death cab in 1997. The band was originally only a one member band consisting of guitarist Ben Gibbard but after the release of a successful demo tape entitled ‘You Can Play These Songs with Chords’; Gibbard decided to form the solo project into a complete band. He recruited Christopher Walla, as an electric guitarist, Nicholas Harmer on bass, and Nathan Good to play drums.

This group released the LP Something About Airplanes in the summer of 1998 but Nathan Good soon left the band shortly after its release. New drummer Michael Schorr would first appear on The Forbidden Love E.P., released in fall of 2000. The band release another LP entitled ‘The Photo Album’. Death Cab once again had to find a replacement drummer Schorr would leave only to see new drummer Jason McGerr replace Schorr. McGerr would work the drums on their next full album ‘Transatlanticism’ which would become their biggest hit so far. Transatlanticism would sell 225,000 copies during its first year out.

In addition, tracks from the album appeared in the soundtrack of television shows The O.C. and Six Feet Under and the 2005 movie The Wedding Crashers. In November, 2004 Death Cab for Cutie signed a “long-term worldwide deal” with Atlantic Records. They soon released ‘Plans’ which was praised by critics and received a 2005 Grammy nomination for best alternative album. One of their hit singles was ‘Soul meets body’ which has been in rotation on this site’s radio station for some time now so take a listen to it. Otherwise, go and buy their album which is in stores now.

Jamie Foxx (born Eric Marlon Bishop on December 13, 1967 in Terrell, Texas) is an American actor, comedian, and Contemporary R&B singer. He won the 2005 Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in Ray, a biopic about the life of the late musician Ray Charles. He is the fourth person in history to have a #1 album and to have won an Academy Award. Although Foxx has played the piano for many years, it was a cameo appearance in rap artist Twista’s hit single ‘Slow Jamz’ that the world caught on to Foxx’s musical talent. He had also previously released an album in 1994 with the Fox Record Label but the album went virtually unnoticed.

Foxx continued his musical talents by lending his vocal talents on 50 cent’s massacre album as well as appearing in Kanye West’s ‘Gold Digger’ single which topped the Billboard Top 100. During the 2005 Grammy Awards, Foxx performed live with Alicia Keys and Quincy Jones singing “Georgia on My Mind” in tribute to the late Ray Charles. Foxx also continues to be an actor and will be featured in several upcoming blockbuster movies including the movie adaptation of Miami Vice.

He has also released a second album entitled ‘Unpredictable’ with 2 singles that include ‘ Unpredictable’ (featuring Ludacris) and ‘Extravaganza’ (featuring Kanye West). The album reached #2 on the billboard charts in its first week and soon reached the #1 spot the next week selling over 200 000 copies. Foxx is currently nominated for a 2005 Grammy Award for Best R&B Male Vocal Performance (“Creepin”). Check out his latest album ‘Unpredictable’ which is on sale in stores nationwide right now.
